This collection contains materials relating to the Elon University Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL). The collection is arranged chronologically, then alphabetically by type of material. This is a large ledger book that represents a chronology of the history of the Christian Church denomination that was founded in the United States in the late 18th and early 18th century by James O’Kelly. It covers the denomination’s split from the Methodist Church, the founding of the church’s conferences, and the founding of Graham College, the forerunner of Elon College.

This collection consists of the papers of Dr. C. E. Newman, minister and Historian of the Southern Christian Convention. Included are historical reports, sermons, Sunday School lessons, funeral orations, correspondence, and business documents. The papers were collected from Dr. Newman’s study at the Union Congregational Church in Virgilina, Virginia, and donated to the Church History Room of Elon College.
