Abstract

This collection is comprised of a complete set of proofs and publications produced by the Office of University Communications between 1962 and 2011, with the bulk of publications produced between the 1990s and the early 2000s. The original order of the collection has been maintained. The collection is arranged alphabetically by the names of offices, organizations, or events for whom publications were produced and then chronologically within each office, organization, or event.

Biographical / Historical

The Office of University Communications 2012 Web site states that the office "promotes the mission and identity of Elon University through a variety of print and online publications for students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and the public. University Communications staff members serve the community as the first source of information about the university." The office is currently made up of the News Bureau, Print Publications, the Web Team, and Photography, and it maintains Elon's identity systems. The News Bureau "serves as a liaison between the university and the news media. The News Bureau issues all news releases on behalf of the University and coordinates media requests to visit campus or interview professors and staff about their work." This team also serves "as the primary content managers for the E-net! news Web site." The Print Publications team "produces printed marketing materials for major events and external audiences, including alumni, donors and prospective students. The major pieces include the quarterly Magazine of Elon, all admissions material, the Provost's Report and publications for the Office of University Advancement." The Web team oversees the Elon Web site, maintains custom web applications, and "designs the 'look and feel' of the Web site and electronic communications." The Photographer "works closely with members of the Elon University community, providing photography to publicize and promote the institution in online and printed publications." Elon's identity system "is comprised of a unique set of signatures and wordmarks that represent the university and its schools, graduate programs, departments, centers and programs. Elon's graphic identity provides visual ties to the university's beautiful campus and its strong traditions and values." (University Communications Web site, 2012) The office was formerly called University Relations. Prior to that, it was known as the Public Relations Office. This collection reflects the work of the designers, printers, photographers, and writers of publications generated over the years by the Office of University Communications for a number of campus offices, organizations, and events. The collection is a complete sampling of those publications for the dates specified above.
