Scope and Contents

A considerable number of document in this collection are treatises on historical, spiritual, or religious matters written by individual authors. The rest of the collection consists of minutes, reports, yearbooks, handbooks, periodicals, manuals, constitutions, and by-laws. Most of the pamphlets in the collection were published by conferences and groups related to the United Church of Christ: The Congregational Christian Church, The Evangelical and Reformed Church, and the UCC itself. The collection is very large, consisting of over 600 items.

Biographical / Historical

The United Church of Christ was created in 1957 by the merger of two denominations, the Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Churches. Both denominations were, in turn, the result of a union of two churches: The Congregational Churches merged with the Christian Church in 1931, and The Evangelical Synod of North America and the Reformed Church of the United States merged in 1934.

Abstract

A considerable number of document in this collection are treatises on historical, spiritual, or religious matters written by individual authors. The rest of the collection consists of minutes, reports, yearbooks, handbooks, periodicals, manuals, constitutions, and by-laws. The collection is arranged into three series: The Congregational Christian Church (CCC), the Evangelical and Reformed Church (ERC), and the United Church of Christ (UCC). The collection is very large, consisting of about 600 items.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged into three series: The Congregational Christian Church (CCC), the Evangelical and Reformed Church (ERC), and the United Church of Christ (UCC). The Congregational Christian Church and Evangelical and Reformed Church will include documents published by the churches that merged into those respective denominations (for example, documents published by the Christian Church fall into the Congregational Christian Church series). The UCC series will have documents published by the UCC itself, or related to the UCC. Items in each series are arranged alphabetically by title, and then chronologically.
